At Willowbrook Homecare, we celebrate the dedicated individuals who make a difference. Our “Willowbrook Spotlight On…” series highlights team members who embody the compassion, commitment, and excellence that define the social care sector.

This month, we proudly spotlight Anne Silcox, Care Plan Lead at Willowbrook Homecare (Hyndburn).

How long have you been in the Care Sector/with Willowbrook?

I have been in the Care Sector for 11 years, five of those with Willowbrook Homecare. I started my career journey in care as a Rehabilitation Support Worker, progressed to Field Care Supervisor, and am now Care Plan Lead.

What attracted you to the Care Sector/Willowbrook?

My son struggled from an early age with his development and coordination, often being years behind his peers in school. The work I did with him, guided by Occupational Therapists became incredibly rewarding as he started to progress.

I have a background in Finance, but at that time, I was quite frustrated with the constant pressure to meet targets. So, on a spur-of-the-moment decision, I walked into a care company advertising Reablement positions and asked for a job. I have not looked back since.

What qualifications have you achieved or worked towards to date?

  • Level 2 NVQ Apprenticeship Diploma in Adult Social Care
  • Level 3 NVQ Advanced Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care
  • Healthier Pennine Lancashire – Complex Dementia Training
  • QNUK Level 3 Award for Moving and Handling Trainers (Health & Social Care) (RQF).

How do you achieve satisfaction or success in your role?

I achieve job satisfaction by sharing my knowledge, expertise, and experiences by delivering Willowbrook training to new and existing carers.

What is the best advice you have ever received or would like to give?

“Treat people as you would like to be treated yourself in your own home.”

That is the benchmark I set for myself when writing Care Plans and delivering care.

What do you love or enjoy the most about what you do?

I enjoy working with the people we support and care for, helping them to live independently and safely in their own homes for as long as possible.

No achievement is too small; just witnessing someone regain a skill is a significant accomplishment. I believe that being in your own home is the best place to be, and it is where I want to spend my later years.

Tell us a surprising or fun fact about you.

I love spending time, in my kitchen cooking and baking, especially while experimenting with recipes alongside my little granddaughter.

Unfortunately, my love for cooking means I need to walk daily to burn off the extra food I indulged in!

Thank you, Anne, for your commitment and dedication!
