Our latest Willowbrook Spotlight is on Tracey Forsythe, Care Support Worker at Willowbrook Homecare (Hyndburn).
*How long have you been with Willowbrook?
I have worked at Willowbrook Homecare for nearly 20 years. I work in the Hyndburn area providing additional care and support to enable people to live in their homes, helping to maintain their lifestyle and independence.
I’d never worked in the care sector before, but right from the start, I knew that it was the role for me – I love my job. I make a real difference in people’s lives, and that feeling of job satisfaction is priceless!
*What attracted you to the Care Sector?
I was working at Stockley’s Sweets when Jodie, a colleague I worked with, mentioned that her mum had just started a new job as a Carer. Jodie went on to detail what the job entailed, and I thought, “I like to find out more and give that go”. So, on my way home, I popped into Willowbrook Homecare in Oswaldtwistle and chatted with the Management Team. I started my new career with Willowbrook a few weeks later!
*What qualifications have you achieved?
I have achieved my NVQ levels one and two in Health & Social Care. I have undertaken yearly training and development courses that helped maintain and develop my knowledge and skills and support me in my role.
*Tell us a surprising or fun fact about you.
Years ago, I did a parachute jump for White Ash Special School for charity – Never again!
*What is the best advice you have ever received or would likely give?
To treat our clients like they were your Grandparents, with respect.
Tracey concludes with;
If you are considering a career change or a new role and would like to give care work a go, please DO consider it. It can be challenging at times, but it’s also rewarding and fulfilling. Go for it – I have never looked back.
