Members of the Willowbrook Homecare leadership team recently attended a dedicated fire safety training and awareness day delivered by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service at their Leadership and Development Centre in Euxton, Chorley.

The session was attended by Mary Noone, Registered Manager; Vicky Yates, Extra Care Registered Manager; and Nicky Smith, Extra Care Deputy Manager. The day focused on strengthening knowledge, building awareness, and exploring practical approaches to fire safety within the community.

Willowbrook Homecare is currently involved in the CareSafe Fire Safety Scheme alongside other care providers, working in partnership with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. This collaborative approach supports safer home environments and promotes the health and wellbeing of individuals by increasing awareness of fire risks and helping to prevent incidents.

The training provided valuable insight into identifying potential fire risks within the home. This further enhances our ability to support the people we care for to remain safe and independent in their own surroundings. It has also equipped our leadership team with the knowledge and confidence to share learning across our wider workforce, strengthening safe working practices across our services.

The session also highlighted how to access additional support, including referrals for Safe and Well visits. These home safety visits, delivered by local Community Fire Safety teams, offer tailored advice and, where appropriate, equipment to help reduce risks in the home.

Mary Noone, Registered Manager, said:

The training was both informative and engaging, and has strengthened our understanding of how we can support individuals to stay safe in their own homes. We would like to thank the team at Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service for their expertise, support, and continued commitment to keeping communities safe.
