On Thursday (8th May), Hare Hill in Littleborough proudly hosted a very special event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, marking the end of the Second World War in Europe.

It was a heartfelt and joyful gathering, bringing together the people we support, their families, friends, our care team, and members of the local community to reflect, remember, and celebrate.

The garden was beautifully adorned with vibrant poppy decorations, lovingly arranged in the lead-up to the day. The setting was filled with colour, warmth, and a true sense of remembrance, creating the perfect atmosphere for the occasion.

Everyone enjoyed a traditional wartime-inspired meal of Spam fritters, eggs and chips, a nostalgic reminder of the tastes and experiences of the 1940s. The meal sparked stories and memories from that era, adding a personal and meaningful touch to the day.

To enhance the experience, Hare Hill was delighted to welcome Wes, a talented entertainer whose performance brought joy to all. His classic renditions had everyone tapping their toes and singing along. And of course, no celebration would be complete without a little fun and fundraising. One of the standout raffle prizes was a wartime ration hamper, which brought plenty of smiles and excitement.

We were thrilled by the fantastic turnout. Seeing everyone come together to share laughter, memories, and moments of reflection truly captured the spirit of VE Day and reflected the values we hold dear at Willowbrook Homecare.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the day so memorable, from the incredible Hare Hill team, who worked tirelessly to plan and prepare, to everyone who joined us, bringing such warmth and enthusiasm. It was a wonderful reminder of the importance of community, remembrance, and togetherness.

We will remember them.
